Future Plans

Do I plan to use this blog for personal or professional growth? I don't think that I am ready to implement blogs in my classroom curriculum. However, I think that I would like to use this blog for both personal and professional growth and learn more about how to navigate through this website. I have a lot to learn and doing it and browsing thru the different settings and tools I think I will learn more about blogs and how to start using it in the classroom. I also feel that blogs and the use of technology, maybe is a little more appropriate for upper grade students. I will be teaching first grade next year so I don't think I will be using it next year. This just means I have more time to learn and be able to use it in case I get fourth or fifth grade the year after that.

I plan to use the Google groups for my classroom to publish assignments, files, and host discussions. I want them to submit work and encourage collaborative documents as well as writing revisions to improve their analysis.

I think it might actually streamline some of my administrative work and help students be more successful.

It's cool that you are able to use your knowledge of developmental differences between children of certain ages to make determinations about what kind of technology would be most appropriate for them. Maybe a blog for parents would be something worthwhile, even if you have 1st graders. Or even a blog for other teachers...after all, my best ideas as a teacher I've stolen from other excellent teachers! I'm sure you'd have tons to contribute to your particular educational setting!

I can see your point about using a blog with 1st graders... though it would be really exciting if you could figure out a way to do it! I agree with Mr. Hunsberger about using it for parents... that's what I plan to do... even if only 1 or 2 parents use it, it will be a good experience for my professional growth.

Another suggestion is to use a class blog to keep track of all the assignments and other information you need to provide to your class.

Come on! Mrs. G. You'll be surprised what kids can do with a little guidance. A classroom blog would be a great opportunity for you and your students to showcase what is going on in your classroom. You can have older students help with typing. Count on us to be your blog buddies. http://room36.wordpress.com

I asked myself the same question and I think that the answer is likely to be a bit of both. I too do not feel ready to implement blogs in my curriculum...but perhaps I should just think to jump right in and try it. I'm not yet sure. What does come to mind is that I try keeping a blog and perhaps share it with my kids and offer the notion of them using it or one of their own, and see how they feel about it. It's so far away right now, having just closed up a school year. It's definitely something to ruminate about during the summer.
